Frequently Asked Questions - ►Information about the International High School Teacher (HST) Programme

The International High School Teacher Programme 2017 (HST2017) will take place 2-22 July 2017.
The programme will start on Sunday, 2 July at 5pm and will be finished on Saturday, 22 July in the morning.

The HST2017 programme is open for teachers from around the world. All applicants need to have a good working knowledge of the English language and need to be committed to attend the programmes in full. Furthermore, preference in the selection will go to teachers who have a proven experience of extra-curricular activities, such as:

  • Organization of educational activities (science olympiads, summer courses for students)
  • Contribution to the planning of national curricula
  • Involvement in the activities of national and international educational bodies

Please note: Applicants from the USA are asked to contact the US HST coordinator Ken Cecire who will inform you about the dedicated application process for teachers from the USA. Applicants from Canada are asked to consult the website of the Canadian Association of Physicists.

The application process for the HST2017 programme will open on 1 November and will be closed on 22 January 2017 at midnight (Geneva time).

Applications for the HST2017 programme are only accepted via the respective application form on the CERN teacher programmes website. The application process is split into three parts in which you are asked to supply personal details, answer HST specific questions, and upload a 1 minute video clip to present yourself in English.

The 1-minute video is your chance to explain why you are the ideal candidate to participate in the HST2017 programme! Please present yourself in English and describe briefly what draws your interests towards physics and sciences. Catch our attention with your creativity!

The 1-minute video does not have to be professionally produced. You can simply use your phone to record your presentation.
The file size must be less than 100 MB and you can upload any of the following file types: avi, mov, wmf, fly, mp4

Yes, all applicants who successfully apply for the HST2017 programme will receive a confirmation e-mail immediately after submitting their application.

We will send out acceptance and rejection e-mails to all HST2017 applicants in February.

Every accepted applicant who is not supported by any third-party funding agency (e.g. their school or government) will receive a financial subsistence to cover both their travel and living costs for the duration of the HST2017 programme.

The financial subsistence will be send via bank transfer during the first week of the programme.
Please note: depending on the country and bank, it can take up to 10 days until the bank transfer is fully completed.
